Getting started

Do I need to do anything after installing Editr?

Yes, three things:
  1. Turn on the global app toggle in the Editr admin
  2. Add editing blocks to your Order status page in the checkout and accounts editor
  3. Add the Edit order banner or Time left countdown to your Thank you page
Until the global toggle is on and at least one block is added, customers won’t see anything on your storefront.

Is Editr free?

Yes, Editr is free to use. If pricing changes in the future, we’ll notify you well in advance.

What’s the difference between the global toggle and the individual theme blocks?

The global toggle is a kill switch. When off, all editing blocks are hidden from customers regardless of theme configuration. The theme blocks control which editing options appear and where they appear on the Order status and Thank you pages. Both must be set up for customers to see editing options.

Editing options and restrictions

What can customers edit?

Customers can cancel their order, change quantities, swap variants, remove items, and add new items from your store. They cannot edit shipping addresses, payment methods, or discounts yet.

How do restrictions stack?

If an order matches any restriction across any category (tags, channel, location, country, fraud risk), editing is blocked entirely for that order.

Can I disable editing for specific products?

Not directly. You can tag orders containing those products and use an Order tag restriction to block editing on those orders, but there’s no product-level restriction in Editr itself.

Can customers still edit after the editing window closes?

No. Once the window closes, all editing options disappear from the storefront for that order.

Inventory and refunds

How are refunds processed?

Refunds are processed automatically when a customer cancels their order or reduces its value. You choose whether refunds go to the original payment method or as store credit in Refund options.

Where does restocked inventory go?

When restocking is on, inventory returns to the original fulfillment location for each item on the order. Multi-location stores keep stock in the right place automatically.

Do I get charged for refunds processed by Editr?

Your Shopify payment provider’s standard refund fees apply, same as manual refunds. Editr itself doesn’t charge for edits or refunds.

Customer experience

Will customers be notified when their order changes?

Only if you turn on customer notifications. Currently, only order cancellation emails are supported, using Shopify’s existing Order cancelled template.

What does a customer see when editing isn’t available?

The editing blocks don’t render on orders that are outside the window or blocked by a restriction. If you’ve added the Time left countdown or Edit order banner, they switch to an “unavailable” state with a message you can customize.

Can I preview what customers see?

Yes. Use Shopify’s Preview feature in the checkout and accounts editor, or place a test order and view the Order status page yourself.
