# Understanding analytics

> Monitor your redirect performance, track 404 visits, and understand your monthly usage patterns

## Analytics overview

Analytics show you how visitors are interacting with your redirects and which broken links are being accessed on your store.

**What you can track:**

* Total tracked visits (404s, redirect rules, and live redirects combined)
* Redirect rule activations
* Live redirect visits
* 404 page visits (broken links not covered by 301 redirects or rules)
* Visit trends over time
* Individual rule performance
* Specific broken link visit counts

## Viewing analytics

### Dashboard summary (Homepage)

The Redirect Pro homepage shows a high-level summary of your past 7-day activity:

* **Total visits**: Combined count of all 404 visits, redirect rule activations, and live redirect visits
* **Redirect rule visits**: How many times your redirect rules were triggered
* **Live redirect visits**: Visits to active pages redirected by a live redirect
* **404 visits**: Broken link visits not covered by redirects or rules

This gives you a quick snapshot of your redirect activity without leaving the homepage.

## Understanding your metrics

### Total tracked visits

**What it measures:**
Combined count of all visits that count toward your monthly quota.

**Includes:**

* 404 page visits (broken links)
* Redirect rule activations
* Live redirect visits

**Excludes:**

* 301 redirect visits (unlimited, don't count toward quota)

<Info>
  If approaching your limit, consider creating 301 redirects for high-traffic URLs or upgrading your plan.
</Info>

### Redirect rule visits

**What it measures:**
How many times visitors triggered your redirect rules.

**Why it matters:**

* High numbers indicate your rules are actively being used
* Identify which rules handle the most traffic
* Candidates for conversion to 301 redirects

**Where to see more:**
View [rule matches](/redirect-pro/guides/working-with-redirect-rules/view-manage-rule-matches) (Enterprise only) to see which specific URLs are triggering rules and convert high-traffic patterns to 301s.

### Live redirect visits

**What it measures:**
How many times visitors were redirected from active pages by your live redirects.

**Why it matters:**

* Monitor which active pages are triggering live redirects
* Identify high-traffic live redirects that impact your quota
* If a page no longer needs to stay active, consider replacing the live redirect with a 301 redirect for SEO benefits and unlimited visits

### 404 visits

**What it measures:**
Visits to broken URLs that aren't covered by any redirects or redirect rules.

**Why it matters:**

* These are broken links actively hurting your customer experience and SEO
* High 404 counts mean you need to create redirects
* Immediate action required for frequently-accessed broken links

**Where to see more:**
Visit the [Broken Links page](/redirect-pro/guides/tracking-broken-links/managing-broken-links) to see which specific URLs are receiving 404 visits and create redirects to fix them.

## Analyzing performance by source

### View redirect rule performance

See how individual redirect rules are performing:

1. Go to **Redirect Rules** page
2. Review the visit counts next to each rule
3. Click **View matches** (Enterprise only) to see specific URLs triggering each rule
4. Identify high-traffic rules for conversion to 301

See [View and manage rule matches](/redirect-pro/guides/working-with-redirect-rules/view-manage-rule-matches) for details.

### View broken link performance

See which broken links are getting the most traffic:

1. Go to **Broken Links** page
2. Prioritize creating redirects for high-traffic broken links
3. Monitor the "Unresolved" tab for new broken links

See [Manage broken links](/redirect-pro/guides/tracking-broken-links/managing-broken-links) for details.
